Yesterday marked a major first for me this election season: I saw a McCain sign.
I’m not kidding when I say it was the first one I’ve seen. I mean, I guess I’ve seen them on television, and in newspaper photos. But, not in real life. We were just north of Shoreline when one appeared, on the side of the road. It wasn’t shocking, but it was definitely a curiosity.
The further north we went, the more we saw. It was right in line with the theory that all you have do is drive thirty minutes out of the city, and things aren’t quite as blue as you are used to.
It sure is picturesque, though.
Nikole and I went for a Sunday drive, one of our last top down drives of the year. It was the first time with Cleo, and she made for an excellent little passenger. She’s the only one small enough to fit in the non-existent backseat in the MGB.
We ended up in Snohomish, via Highway 9. It’s a nice drive, filled with rolling farmland and a riot of Fall foliage colors. We made that same drive a year ago, almost to the date. It is now an October tradition.
I’m not so worried about the McCain signs. His campaign seems to be a bigger mess on a daily basis. I am feeling very optimistic about November 4.
I am, however, quite concerned about all the Dino Rossi signs. He is hitting it hard right now, and our Governor race is going to be painfully close. It is imperative that incumbent Governor Chris Gregoire wins this thing. If you have any good ideas for her campaign, please share them. She really needs our help.
Cleo spent a good part of the drive asleep in the back, all snuggled into her bed. The rest of the time, she got cozy in my lap. She really is the sweetest little dog. We’re starting to get to know each other, and I think we are going to be good friends.
Nikole and I both wore our lucky hats, and lots of layers.
It really was a beautiful Fall weekend.
This time of the year makes me think of the Cave Singers. We listened to their record in the car. Neither of us are sick of it, yet, but I am glad they are busy making a new one right now. The demos sound great, and I am expecting good things from those dudes.
This sign is a real mystery to me. I wonder why that red light would go on? It was kind of near the bank of the river, in Snohomish. I hope it’s not very important. It seems kind of stupid to rely on passersby to notify the city of something major like a flood, or nuclear attack.
I sure hope we are dancing on the grave of the Republican party soon. I can hardly wait until Election Day. You would not believe how much of my brain is taken up with politics right now.

Answer: The light goes on to warn of a problem with the sewer pump station located nearby which could potentially allow sewage to flow into the Snohomish River. The number reaches the city’s maintenance staff, so they can take necessary action to repair or re-start the equipment at that location which normally pumps any sewage flowing into the pump station up to the sewer pipe line located in First Street.
